Let fire inspire

Captivated by the magic of working with glass, Rebecca Weddell creates beautiful and unique lampwork beads and offers a range of beadmaking courses.

Kids' summer craft festival

The Let Fire Inspire workshop is based at Village Works, which is right in the centre of this beautiful village. We're a diverse and friendly collection of creative businesses - and we have been known to collaborate on projects!

Dot to Dot Studio is one of my neighbours - Becky and her small team of specialist tutors run dressmaking, sewing, quilting and craft classes for people of all ages and experience throughout the year, and during the summer holidays there is a three-day craft festival. Yesterday, today and tomorrow have been/are going to be busy days at Village Works - and very colourful ones too, if the amount of fabric dye I've seen is anything to go by....

After their tie-dyeing exploits yesterday morning I welcomed two 12-year-old members of the craft festival cohort to the workshop to make some beads with me - Rosie and Ellie each produced a stunning collection of beads, picking both transparent and opaque glass to work with in a beautiful selection of colours.

And then this afternoon five Dot-to-Dotters came and set up camp in my workshop - Rosie and Ellie were this time joined by Winnie, Gabriella and Marley - to make drawstring bead necklaces using nylon cord in lovely colours. For their necklaces, Rosie and Ellie used the beads they'd made, and other three had the pick of my stash. Creative discussions were had, many experiments with colour combinations were carried out, decisions were made - and five young ladies sporting beaming smiles and lovely handmade necklaces headed back round the corner to Dot to Dot to carry on with their craft extravaganza!
