Where magic happens
I moved to my current workshop in 2013, and opened that summer in an absolute heatwave! I was already a veteran of two garden sheds - firstly a 10ft x 8ft number with a single torch in my parents' garden during my 'boomerang' years, then when I moved on in 2006, a 12ft x 10ft shed with two torches. That's when I started letting fire inspire others as well as myself, and embarked on teaching courses in this captivating craft!
This is my current workshop soon after it opened - gosh, doesn't it look tidy? There have been some changes since, and it's a little more 'lived-in' these days, but you get the idea - I've got four torches, lots of gorgeous extraction piping, oxygen concentrators, work surfaces for displaying things and sorting beads and making jewellery.... and a kitchen area, as I need a constant supply of tea and coffee, and a cooker for providing my all-day students with a delicious homemade lunch.
Things I love about my workshop:
- It's block-built, detached, secure and insulated.
- It's in a lovely huddle of other creative businesses at Village Works, which is in the centre of this rural Sussex village, and includes a photography studio, dressmaking business teaching people how to sew, a flower school, an osteopath, a homeopathic veterinary surgery and a woodengraver/signwriter/sculptor.
- It's got free parking.
- It is mere steps away from the local coffee shop and the pub - and on Wednesdays, the artisan wood-fired pizza van. Just saying...
- It's just across the road from the Village Stores and Post Office, which makes doing my banking, posting parcels and doing a spot of shopping for provisions extremely convenient!
If you'd like to visit, you'd be very welcome! Just let me know when to expect you!
